On January 25, the Crestwood Board of Education appointed, Assistant Principal, William Naubert to Principal at Riverside Middle School. In recognition of Mr. Naubert's contributions to the district, his commitment to education and his leadership, the Board voted unanimously to support Superintendent Brown's recommendation to appoint Mr. Naubert and not interview other candidates. Mr. Naubert will assume his new duties on July 1, 1999, replacing retiring Principal Gregory Pratt. Mr. Naubert's contributions to the district began in 1970 as a fifth grade teacher in the North Dearborn Heights School District. He was instrumental in the planning and implementation of the fifth grade camping experience, which continues today. Two years later he became the media specialist for grades K-7. In 1976 Mr. Naubert was transferred to, what was then, Riverside High School to teach English and to develop a career center. He helped organize a program of vocational evaluation; career education, job readiness skills, job placement and college planning that became a model for districts around the country.
Mr. Naubert became a guidance counselor in 1978 while continuing his responsibility with the Career Center. Mr. Naubert later taught math and science at Riverside High School and science at Crestwood High School. For the last seven years he has served as Assistant Principal at Riverside Middle School.
Mr. Naubert's educational background is extensive with both an elementary and secondary teaching certificate. At the secondary level he is certified to teach math, science, and English. He holds a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling and in Elementary Education, as well as a Specialist Degree in Administration and Supervision.
Mr. Naubert's commitment to students and to his profession is well known. He strives to be an excellent role model for students. He develops positive relationships with students and tries to help each student he meets during the course of his day. He has helped mentor many new teachers and his appointment to Principal was widely supported by the faculty at Riverside. As Mr. Naubert puts it, "I'm here to serve" and now he'll have the opportunity to serve as the Principal of Riverside Middle School. ------------------- Educational Consultant for Michigan GREEN.
