Peter Basso Associates excels in the design of high performance buildings that are functional, energy efficient and environmentally conscious. As the mechanical/electrical/plumbing system engineers, we incorporate sustainability into each of our designs, working closely with the architect and other disciplines to optimize system design, minimize long-term energy use and deliver a healthy, productive indoor environment.
While energy management has become a key component in today’s sustainable system design, it has been a primary philosophy at Basso for years. From our inception, we have recognized that incorporating energy conservation measures into facility design derives important benefits.
Peter Basso Associates has a thorough understanding of systems designs that incorporate a wide range of energy conservation technologies. We routinely perform energy modeling to evaluate conservation opportunities. This is a required element for LEED ® certification, but at Basso energy modeling is also performed on many other projects in order to evaluate alternatives. Most importantly, Basso can advise you on how to maximize energy conservation benefits on your project, giving you the opportunity to meet LEED ® requirements and at the same time minimize life cycle costs.
Our energy conservation design experience includes geothermal heat pump systems, under floor air distribution systems, thermal storage systems, energy recovery, and free cooling systems. Many of our projects have won technology awards from the American Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers at the local, regional and national level.
Basso Green Design Practices:
- Energy modeling to evaluate system alternatives for optimal life cycle performance
- Minimize water use, and reuse wastewater/gray water
- Day lighting to enhance the indoor environment and to reduce electric light energy
- Renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaics and wind energy
- Measurement and verification provisions to document facility energy use and occupant comfort
- Track performance trends to maintain optimum system performance throughout the life of the facility
- A formal commissioning process to confirm that systems are performing in accordance with the design intent and to verify maintainability of systems – for both new and existing buildings
