New owner plans transition to biomass fuel
L'ANSE - Greener pastures are on the way for the J.H. Warden Generating Station. Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) and L'Anse Warden Electric Company, LLC inked the paperwork for the power plant's sale to the latter company Friday evening. Closing on the sale is expected within 60 days.

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm's emphasis on developing an alternative energy sector will create jobs and strengthen the economy according to a new study released today. The extensive energy policy-related study assesses the impact of energy efficiency and renewable energy policies on Michigan's economy. The results of the study clearly show that investments in energy efficiency programs and the adoption of a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) as called for in Granholm's economic plan, will create up to 19,000 additional jobs and increase the Gross State Product (GSP) by as much as $1.6 billion.

| Prince Edward To Launch Wind Power On The Brac |

Monday, February 5, 2007 - While Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex visits the Sister Islands, he will witness the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wind Power Project of Cayman Brac Power and Light (CBP&L) Company. The communications tower on the Bluff (opposite the Aston Rutty Civic Centre) will be used for feasibility studies for this project, which is the first step towards wind generation on the Brac.

January 8, 2007 - As warm January weather reminds skiers that global climate change can impact their sport, at least one northern Michigan resort is fighting back. Concerned that pollution from coal-fired power plants contributes to global warming, Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville is powering its high-speed chairlift, the Crystal Clipper, with wind energy this ski season.
