Michigan GREEN and Educational leaders throughout Michigan are challenging state officials on Senate Bill No. 213 that allows utility companies to charge additional costs to schools and other institutions for generating their own renewable energy.

Denny Chartier, Superintendent of Iron Mountain Schools and President of Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA) Region I, stated, "As school administrators we need to be able to explore all opportunities to decrease costs so we can focus more of our resources in our classrooms. Renewable energy technologies present a viable alternative to our rising energy costs, and schools should have the ability to benefit from these technologies."

Michigan GREEN (Group for a Renewable Energy Efficient Nation) is a non-profit energy organization working with school officials on this petition drive.

Today Michigan GREEN sent a response to Senate Bill No. 213 to Governor Granholm and The Michigan Public Service Commission which included the support of over 135 school districts in Michigan.
